I’m not riding my bike today…..

Yesterday was my regular day off the bike.  I went to the dentist, got a filling and it sucked. Sorry dentists.

I’m coming off a huge start to the year on the bike.  All my cycling friends were on holiday over the Christmas / New Year break. I caught COVID and was out for 10 days, but the bottom line is, we rode our bikes – a lot. I was almost glad when my friends went back to work.

I’ve also been trying to ride more with people who like to start early in the morning – and my sleep has been a little bit off.

I know, I know –  so many excuses. Today I woke up and felt tired.  Trainingpeaks told me I was tired. I knew that I didn’t have to ride today – nobody was depending on me. So I turned the alarm off and went back to sleep. Thankfully my cat also had a sleep-in today –  there was no toe biting, telling me to get out of bed and feed him.

Once upon a time, I’d beat myself up about this “laziness” for most of the morning. Today, I’m going to let it go.

I’m just a regular guy who likes to ride his bike. I don’t need to be this tired. A day off is not the end of the world.

I’m not an elite athlete training for the Olympic games.  I do have an event in 9 weeks, but it’s a 5-day cycle tour, not a stage race.  I’m going there to ride with some great people and enjoy myself – not snash myself into the ground.

Today I’m going to kick back, drink coffee, maybe go for a little walk and enjoy my life. Tonight I’m going to sleep well.

Tomorrow I’ll feel better and I’ll ride my bike, and all will be good with the world.
